The first gig in NYC for these several years, the musicians who back up him are his old friends, Tony Garnie (on bass) and Anton Fig (on drums), and Freddie Katz (on rhythm guitar/backing vocals). Plus, the hall is the most well-known club in the world, "the Bottom Line." And this is the last gig in this 20 century! Is there any fan who isn't interested in that gig?
Spedding brought his old Fender Deluxe Reverb from somewhere which he used in the 70's. It sounded mild and rich, or sweet and tasty. Anton Fig's playing is sometimes, as it were illegal, not in any drumming manual, like Spedding's licks or solos. Tony Garnie's playing is so sure. Freddie Katz works well enough. Spedding looked 20 years younger, really. The gig was exciting, but I felt relaxed than excited. It was different enjoyment from his European tour. It was worth flying to NYC to see this gig.
