Roxy Music Reunion World Tour 2001

live in Boston/MSG in July 2001

Boston Clam Chowder Party
I have just good memory at Boston - Sunny, beautiful city and clam chowder tastes so good. And, of course,
Roxy Music! But don't ask me about it. I have no word to tell you how wonderful it was. Anyway it was an Excellent and Brilliant Rock'n'Roll Entertainment Show For Adult. They always attract you, and you can't even wink. The song is good, their playing is good and you have to gaze all the performers.

Julia Thornton - Good looking and dancing! Are you a guy? It's natural that you gaze her all the time. It's needless to say her percussion is brilliant.
Lucy Wilkins - I say, she is a wild fighter. Running at her spot, head-banking like heavy metal fans and sometimes action like David Copperfield. But her super solo on Out Of The Blue, you have to pay attention to her. She plays also keyboard and does everything.
Sarah Brown - Usually backing vocals stand at the back row, but she is in the front. Very deep and loud voice. Not backing, one of main performer. According to the tour program, her songs hit in Japan in the 1990's. I have heard her name before...
Four Dancers - They appeared onstage on Both Ends Burning, and I watched them. I almost missed watching Spedding's guitar solo! They played on only a few songs, I'd like to enjoy their "oldies-but-goodies dancing" more.

We love Boston. We'd like to go back again. On the next day, we were going to go to NYC in the moring, but changed to afternoon. Because after the Roxy show, we couldn't have another clam chowder at a restaurant.

The reunioned Roxy Music is like New England clam chowder. Their main is Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay, of course, but you can't make delicious clam chowder only with clam and cream. You need potato, salt, onion, corn starch, sugar ... We bought the clam chowder cans 'cause it say "New England" there, but it is sold in LA, too.

The Way To Bankruptcy
First time to play MSG (theater)? Most well-known place in the world. It must be one of the best show during this tour. So I decided to go. Both shows were good, too. I pick up some songs which were impressive;
Re-Make/Re-Model - This is Roxy Music. The best song for opening. But it's too good for opening. Exciting enough. Far better than its studio version.
Ladytron - Phil Manzanera went mad, crazy and insane at the last guitar solo, with arming and picking. He played too hard on the 1st show, and got a guitar trouble or something like that. He got sane suddenly.
Out Of The Blue - One of my favorite songs. I gazed at only "wild fighter". So have no idea on the other musicians, sorry. Good performance.
My Only Love - Chris plays a long bluesy solo, but Sarah Brown takes over solo and overwhelms his guitar ... I wonder if standing ovation is for her.
Oh Yeah - Everybody in the place stands up and sings. Even I wanted to dance though I wasn't drunk.
Both Ends Buring - One of the highlight song. I love this song, too. Excellent rock'n'roll song. Andy's sax, Chris' bottle-neck guitar, Bryan's harmonica, Phil's solo ... great enough.
Mother Of Pearl - Come back from a short off. Everybody wants this song. Exciting introduction, "HO! HO!"
Editions Of You - You need 10 eyes to enjoy this song completely. Good song and perfect performance. I love this song, too. It's like a festival.

Do you need my comment about Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay? You know about them than me. They are completely professional musicians and performers, anyway.

This is Chris Spedding site, so I'l like to talk about him a bit.
Phil is the 1st guitarist in the band and he plays most of solos and main riffs. But you'll feel out the importance of Chris so soon. He plays importnat licks, sometimes his original/unique ones. I didn't expect his playing much first, so it was a big surprise for me. (I like his rhythm guitar playing than his solo) It's a pity that his sound is strange than usual. The amplifire is different and he uses box(es).

I guess all the action onstage, even one step, is rehearsed again and again. Everything is calculated completely. The rehearsal must be hard, but as a result, it comes to the better show. And it's worth going to the States at last. I don't think I am satisfied with three shows in Japan. If they have good shows even in Japan, I will want to see them again in Europe. I may be a fan of Roxy Music now. Do I have to buy out their CDs/records/rarities? Is this tour just a start of new Roxy Music? Will they tour again next year? I may be a bankruptcy soon...
